Daily Vacation with EFT

How is your stress level today?

A few years ago I presented a stress management training to group of people from many countries, primarily Europe. The conversation turned to taking time off from work.

One of the participants, someone from Germany, compared the one-to-three week vacations common in the U.S. with what she was used to. "In Germany", she said, "we get six weeks of vacation, and we are required to take three weeks at one time."

"Why", I asked, "must you take three weeks off at one time?"

With a look of astonishment at my question she replied, "Well, EVERYONE knows that it takes 3 weeks to REALLY unwind!"

I have often reflected on her comment. If you took three weeks off at once to "really unwind" you would be giving your autonomic nervous system (which, due to the way we live in the US, is probably often in a fight-flight mode) a chance to reset. This would mean your body could more easily go into healing and repair mode, and could potentially do so for an extended period of time. Doing this on a annual basis sure sounds like good "preventative medicine" to me!

If talking off for three weeks to "really unwind" doesn't appear to be in your immediate future another possibility to consider is tapping every day. Tapping helps turn down activity in your autonomic nervous system, aiding it in become more calm. It's a simple way to practice good preventative self-care---a mini-vacation on a daily basis.
